Parish Summer Party Celebrations
There was much to celebrate at our Parish Summer Party at the Wilfred Noyce Centre on 3rd July. Over 100 parishioners came together on a balmy summer’s evening to eat, drink and acknowledge the work of our parish, our people and some significant milestones for several much-loved parishioners.
Monies raised for Kasanka Appeal
Mary Waight thanked the parish for supporting the Kasanka Appeal, which has raised £1,112 from the Corpus Christi plant sale and the Kasanka Appeal Parish Quiz. Mary announced the winners of the quiz: 1st place: Monica Whitehead and girls; 2nd place: the Whitbourn family; and Joint 3rd place: Rory and Sarah Flynn, Maria and Martin Birch, and Adrian and Colette Wyn-Griffiths
Farewell to Jo and Julian
Fr Jonathan thanked Jo and Julian Lewry for their service to the parish as they depart for pastures new, and presented them with a card and flowers.
Significant birthdays to celebrate
Fr Jonathan then presented a bouquet to Brenda Brown on her 90th birthday and thanked her warmly for her work and support for the parish.
Finally, a highlight of the evening was a sensational cake in honour of Fr Jonathan's 60th birthday, which falls later this month. It was decorated to reflect his love of scouting, hill walking and climbing.
Ian Honeysett gave a short speech to mark the event which finished with this brief poem:
Dear Fr Jonathan, How
Can you really be 60 now?
True, your hairline is somewhat receding
But you’re always so positive and welcoming – just what we’re needing.
So, here’s to the next 60, just keep on Scouting and climbing as you’ll surely do
Let’s charge our glasses as we all sing, Thank-you and a very Happy Birthday to you!
