Peacelight Arrives in Godalming

On Saturday 13th December the Peacelight from Bethlehem arrived at St Edmund’s Godalming, and now burns in the votive light in the Lady Chapel.

The Peacelight began as an project of the Austrian Scouts and Guides and each year a child from Upper Austria is chosen to collect the light from the grotto in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem from where it is flown back to Austria. Carried by Scouts it has come from there to Gilwell Park and now to Godalming. Surrey Scouts will have their usual service on 18th December at Bentley Copse but we are delighted that it has arrived early enough this year for us to welcome it properly to our churches.

Pray for peace in our world and in our families, and especially for our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land.

“Take this light as a symbol of peace.
Peace I leave with you, Peace I give to you.
Take it and pass it on to everyone and the world will know that you are my friends.”
