St Edmund’s Church - HCC Application
As part of our ongoing discernment regarding the future of St Edmund’s Church a formal application has been made to the Historic Churches Committee (HCC) for permission - only should St Edmund’s close - to remove the sacred fittings (altars, stained glass, font and statues) and relocate them to other places within the Catholic community. The application includes
An Architectural Advice Note that shows how, in principle, many of these might be located at St Joseph’s, Milford.
A Heritage Report describing the heritage significance of St Edmund’s.
A statement of need and impact statement supporting the application.
The HCC issues faculties for works to listed buildings exempt under the Ecclesiastical Exemption (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Order 2010.
The application is a public process and all the documents relating to St Edmund’s can be found in due course at https://www.catholic-historic-churches.org.uk/churches/865
Following the announcement of Bishop Richard’s transfer to Westminster no firm decision concerning the closure of any of our churches can be made until a new bishop is in place. The appointment of a new bishop often takes a good year.
